The Escalation Trap. When Good Intentions Backfire (Ep. 14)

CtrlAltPMO Video Series

Early in my career, I worked in a culture where escalation was expected. So when I hit a conflict in a new organization, I did what I had been taught: escalate it.

Turns out, this company saw escalation as failure, not leadership. My counterpart and I were expected to work it out ourselves. Our boss was disappointed we hadn’t even tried.

Lesson learned: Escalation isn’t universal, it’s cultural. Read the room before you pull that lever.
